The second Toonistan exhibition took place in the Central Library of Hamburg, welcoming a diverse audience from across the city. This exhibition brought together 22 powerful artworks created by Afghan cartoonists, each one reflecting the emotional, social, and personal realities faced by Afghan women today.
Through expressive lines, symbolism, and storytelling, the artworks highlighted themes of identity, restriction, courage, and the enduring strength of women in Afghanistan. Visitors were invited not only to look, but to listen to feel the unspoken voices behind each piece.
Because the Central Library of Hamburg receives many visitors every day, the exhibition reached a wide audience and received remarkably positive feedback. People of different cultures and generations engaged in conversation, reflection, and empathy demonstrating how art can build understanding where words sometimes fall short.
This exhibition marked an important chapter for Toonistan: a space where visual storytelling becomes advocacy where creativity becomes a form of presence, resistance, and hope.
